Jewellery with a Story

Breathe new life into old treasures and create meaningful jewellery from your past

Starts Aug 16
From 100 British pounds
The Coaching Barn

Available spots

Saturday 16th August 10 - 4 ON THE DAY What has made you you? Learn to combine small, meaningful objects, preloved costume jewellery, photos and recycled materials into a brooch to wear. In this workshop you are inspired to re-imagine, recycle, and reinvent to make craft jewellery with a personal history. You will learn technical methods of setting objects using small bezel frames or tabs and connecting materials through rivets. In this full day with goldsmith Alexandra von Widdern at the beautiful Coaching Barn, the workshop starts with considering how to use storytelling in your design. This will feed into the technical aspects of creating our own piece. LUNCH You are welcome to bring your own lunch, or treat yourself to a delicious £12.50 meal provided by The Goring Grocer, known for their exceptional food. The lunch includes a generous slice of quiche, seasonal salad, and a homemade sweet treat. Hot drinks and biscuits will be available all day. TOOLS AND MATERIALS Please note that due to time, we will be using some prefabricated parts such as brass rivets, headpins, and wire. These will be provided. ADVISORY NOTE There will be some sawing, drilling and small works, so good glasses are essential. If you prefer to wear a mask, please bring your own. WHAT TO BRING You are encouraged to bring some of your own meaningful or interesting items to incorporate. Raid your cupboards, photo albums and memory boxes. Bring your costume jewellery, especially stud and drop earrings, chains, charms and beads. Collate your favourite poems, sayings, old letters and notes. TAKE HOME Transformed treasured memories into wearable art. MORE ABOUT YOUR TUTOR Alexandra von Widdern's work is inspired by individual and collective memory. She started silversmithing at JASSO in 2019, completed two diplomas in fine and advanced jewellery and was fortunate to gain further 1:2:1 training at the bench with a goldsmith. She has been teaching jewellery making since 2023 and has been part of the Modern Makers Collective since then. She works from her own workshop in Oxfordshire.
